Arsenal are reportedly interested in the transfer of River Plate midfielder Exequiel Palacios according to reports from Argentina.
The 20-year-old is one of the hottest talents in South America and was reportedly a target of several sides last summer.
Spanish giants Real Madrid agreed a £20 million move for the young midfielder before an injury prevented a move from materialising.
It is believed that Arsenal have entered the race to sign the midfielder ahead of the new season with the player confirming the interest. Speaking to reporters last week Palacios revealed that Arsenal and Real Madrid were the two clubs that had got in contact with him over a possible transfer.
As culled from Metro Sport, The youngster confirmed that Arsenal are amongst the clubs keen on signing him: ‘I’m proud clubs like Real Madrid and Arsenal are interested in me.’
Arsenal are currently hampered with their inability to spend huge, as a result of their failure to qualify for the Champions League. It is widely reported that manager Unai Emery would be given just £40 million as transfer fee for new signings.
Palacios is the sort of signing that Emery is looking for as he is a young player that can develop into a world-class performer with time.
Palacios is known for his creative brilliance and movement off the ball which makes it difficult for opposing teams to get the ball off him. The 20-year-old was a key part of the River Plate team that won the Copa Libertadores final over bitter rivals Boca Juniors.
This transfer is one that looks likely and it would be interesting to see how he adjusts to the physical game in the Premier League.
