Chelsea were not expected to be busy this summer and it has been a quiet one for the Blues who are yet to unveil their new manager.
Report by Metro can confirm that Chelsea are working to complete the permanent transfer of Mateo Kovacic this summer. It is reported that Marina Granovskaia has been in talks with the player’s representatives in a bid to reach agreement before submitting an official bid to Real Madrid.
The report goes on to say that Chelsea are increasingly confident of sealing this transfer and are expected to pay a large sum for the midfielder. Kovacic is already registered with the club and so can sign for Chelsea despite the transfer ban.
Kovacic has been linked with a move to Inter Milan. However, fresh reports can confirm that the player has told close friends that he would be happy to make the move to west London.
Real Madrid are open to selling the Croatia international and reportedly want around £45million from any club interested in his services.
Kovacic is no stranger to the Chelsea fans, having made 51 appearances for the club under Maurizio Sarri. It is expected that the announcement of Frank Lampard would see the club turn their attention to signing Kovacic who looks like the only signing that would be made this summer pending any positive outcome in their appeal to Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
