Arsenal have made a formal inquiry over the availability of Southampton defender Matt Targett according to TeamTalk.
TeamTalk claims that the Arsenal see Targett as a quality player that should be acquired in the summer. It is understood that Southampton are ready to sell the defender who came through the ranks featuring this season.
Targett is a decent left-back with the ability to make forward runs and deliver excellent crosses into the box. The 23-year old played second-fiddle to Ryan Betrand in the left-back position and it is a big surprise Arsenal are interested in his services.
Arsenals are currently hit with severe financial constraints for a club of its stature. Due to the failure to qualify for the Champions League the club transfer budget has been pegged at £40 million.
It is believed that the likes of Newcastle, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Everton are interested in the fullback. Targett would be expected to compete with Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal for the first team spot.
Targett’s performances for club have shown he is ready for a move to one of the top clubs.
Targett is a player that has shown a commitment to playing the game with passion and is excellent with the ball on the left side.
It remains to be seen whether the transfer would extend to the final periods of the transfer window.
