The long-running transfer saga involving over the transfer of defender William Saliba is far from over.
French tabloid L’Equippe reveals that Tottenham have emerged as late bidders for the 18-year-old defender. According to reports from France, this development has hastened the process for the Gunners as they are set to hold talks with Saint-Etienne over a deal for the defender.
Saliba is regarded as a quality young defender and has drawn comparisons to Real Madrid star Raphael Varane due to their similarities in playing style. It is thought that Saint-Etienne are holding out for £27 million and also want a clause that would let him stay on loan at the club next season.
Arsenal are looking at renegotiating a lower fee and are contemplating whether to agree on the loan deal arrangement. It had earlier been reported that Saliba has his sights set on moving to the Emirates and had agreed on a four-year deal with the club.
However, Tottenham’s late entry changes everything as the North London club also view the French u20 international as a potential star in the making.
This transfer looks like a two-way battle between the north London clubs and it would be intriguing to see how it pans out.
