Aston Villa have been splashing cash left right and centre this summer. According to latest reports, the newly promoted club are in talks with former Chelsea star Daniel Sturridge.
The Sun claims that Aston Villa have engaged in contract discussions with the forward and are close to agreeing a move. Sturridge is regarded as a talented forward but niggling injuries have taken a toll on the forward in recent seasons.
Aston Villa are looking to bring a quality forward after the return of Tammy Abraham to Chelsea and Sturridge is viewed as a worthy replacement.
Ivorian forward Jonathan Kodija is the only senior forward at the club but ihas been inconsistent with his output.
Sturridge has a good pedigree in front of goal and was the second highest goalscorer in the EPL six seasons ago. The forward is out of contract and wants to rebuild his career at a lower club in a bid to return to the national team.
Sturridge is actually a quality player that would improve the team going forward but he would need to improve on his injury record.
We expect that Villa would offer him a short-term deal, which would suit both parties.
