Chelsea have been going through their preparations for the new season under manager Frank Lampard amid much fanfare, and the London club face Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in their penultimate pre-season friendly on Wednesday.
Salzburg have been impressive so far in pre-season and would provide a good test for the Blues ahead of the new season. Frank Lampard has a large squad to pick from despite some key absentees.
It’s touch-and-go for French midfielder N’Golo Kante to play in the clash as he has been battling with a niggling knee injury suffered towards the end of last season. German centre-back Antonio Rudiger is stepping up his rehabilitation in a bid to be back within the first two months of the season.
There are also updates about Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James. The Academy graduates are still a month off from training while Ruben Loftus-Cheek is still a long way from full fitness.
Lampard can call on the likes of Ross Barkley and Bakayoko to fill in for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Loftus-Cheek respectively.
Former Derby County ace Mason Mount has also been exceptional so far and should get another opportunity against Lyon. Chelsea fans would be hoping that the game goes well without any injury problems for their key players.
