Chelsea ace N’Golo has played a bit part role in the pre-season tour so far amid concerns that his recovery from a niggling knee injury is not going according to plan. The Frenchman is considered an important part of the Blues setup.
Kante did not feature in the London club’s friendly against Reading on Sunday and manager Frank Lampard revealed an update on his condition after the game.
Lampard is hopeful that Kante would be able to resume training with his teammates at Cobham next week. According to the Blues legend,’ Kante has been in and out of training in recent days and should be fully recovered ahead of the first EPL game at Manchester United.
Despite this, the former Derby manager is unlikely to rush the Frenchman as he believes that he has a large squad to execute the game.
‘There is a lot more that he needs to do physically, off without us that he can do without any contact which has been good but the signs are good in the last three days that we have been back.
‘It was certainly the right decision for him to come back here and get the treatment that he had. I expect him to be training through the week with us to the point that next week he should be fully training.
‘He is a top class player, so however much you want him in, at the same time you have to make sure he is as fit as he can be when he comes back.’
Lampard is right as there is no use rushing the 27-year-old early to risk aggravating his knee.
Kante is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and Chelsea chances of mounting a title challenge would rest on his ability to dominate the midfield.
Kovacic and Jorginho are likely to start the first game of the season at Old Trafford as both players have been impressive so far.
