In the women’s football category, Man Utd have announced the departure of one of their best defender and female captain, Alex Greenwood.
The club in a short tweet via their Twitter handle disclosed that she has joined French side, Lyon this summer but they hinted that further details will be given later.
The departure of Greenwood is a blow to the Red Devils who are about to make their debut in Premier League in the forthcoming season. Greenwood is known for her sharp defensive skills at the back and it would be hard to find a replacement for her.
With this Man Utd will have to look for a new defender as well as appoint a new captain for the team.
Man Utd made it to the Premier League after they won the Championship Cup last season.
Lyon is the main destination for top performing female footballers and it is not a surprise that Greenwood went there. To replace Greenwood, Man Utd were able to sign England defender Abbie McManus, and Dutch midfielder Jackie Groenen.
Man United ladies will return to action on September 7th when they will play against defending women champions, Manchester City in the Super League.
