Liverpool have completed their first transfer of the season on signing highly rated defender Sepp Van den Berg from PEC Zwolle in a fee believed to be £1.3million excluding add-ons. ‘
The move would see the player move on a permanent transfer to Anfield this summer, in what is considered to be a coup for the club. Van der Berg had been linked to several clubs including the Dutch giants Ajax and PSV but chose to continue his football in England.
It was revealed that Pec Zwolle had included add-ons that could amount to £3.1 million depending on his performances at Liverpool.
Speaking to the club’s website the 17-year-old revealed that the move was a dream come through for him. He also admitted that the offer to train under Jurgen Klopp was too much to turn down.
Van den Berg emerged into a key player for Pec Zwolle since his debut in March 2018. He made 22 senior appearances for the club impressive with his excellent tackling abilty.
Liverpool have continued to place emphasis on youth developments and Van der Berg would be hoping to follow the footsteps of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Klopp has shown his intent to give youth products a chance and the teenager would be relishing a spot in the team for the Cup competitions.
The Red fans have likened the signing of Van der Berg to that of Joe Gomez who was signed from Charlton in 2015. Gomez has gone on to establish himself as one of the finest defenders in the English top flight.
