United confident of sealing transfer of £60m-rated midfielder – not Maddison

Manchester United are confident of securing the signing of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes despite competition from Liverpool.

The Red Devils have been favourites for the player since the opening of the transfer window. But recent reports claim that United rivals Liverpool have made a late bid for the Portugal international.

Notwithstanding, United feel confident that they have offered the best offer for the player. The Old Trafford outfit endured a disappointing campaign finishing out of the top 4 positions.

Several key midfielders have left including Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini making it important that the club makes a key addition to the midfield this summer.

Fernandes is regarded as one of the best midfielders in Europe after his impressive output in the Portuguese league last season.

Capable of creating chances and providing a goal-scoring threat from midfield. The Sporting Lisbon ace is viewed as a player that can bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.

According to The Independent,United are close to signing the midfielder in what would be one of the biggest signings of the transfer window.

Fernandes scored 32 goals and provided 18 assists in all competitions as he helped Sporting Lisbon to win the Portuguese Cup.
